Do you find your teen daydreaming ten minutes after giving him an assignment? Does he make careless mistakes in his work? Is it difficult for him to stay on task and finish school work? Or does your teen struggle with organizing personal and school materials? Does he seem to forget what he has learned the day before? These are all learning problems common among teenagers with ADD or ADHD. Many homeschooling parents find themselves frustrated and looking for answers on how to effectively teach their struggling learners. In this workshop we will discuss ways to help alleviate stress for both the parent and student by giving you practical ideas to help make learning easier for your teenager no matter what subject you teach or curriculum you use!
Confused by the jumble of science curriculum available? There are so many possibilities: nature studies and real books, hands-on labs, Charlotte Mason, classical, or the traditional approach textbook. Then there are those blurred acronyms: STEM, STEAM, STREAM and even SEA. Do you sometimes feel like navigating through the Science is like wading into murky waters with no clear definition or vision? Finding the right fit for your family need not be disorganized chaos! In this workshop, we give you the tools to select the best approach for your family and provide an overview and comparison of the vast array of Science resources available. This workshop concludes with a Question and Answer session, so bring your questions about teaching science and get them answered!
This workshop offers practical resources, lists of materials, and curricula in order to help equip you as you homeschool your struggling learner. Ideas for designing a unique home instruction program tailored to your child’s specific learning strengths and challenges will be presented.
Learning is not all in books. Have fun while you add more tools to your parent resources. Join in on this interactive session where you will learn: How games and activities reinforce learning. How games to build skills in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary building and comprehension. To make an activity to take home with materials provided. Valuable learning activities.

As a teacher, it’s so easy to give the answer, isn’t it? How long do you allow a child to think before you start helping them? Sometimes we need to be quiet and let the child wrestle with the problem to find the answer. Do you know that children will learn better and remember things longer when they discover or think through? The goal is to provide a way for them to learn how to problem solve.

If we homeschool simply to achieve high academic marks, we are squandering the opportunity to influence our children for Christ. Character healthy leaders are those children who have learned to elevate virtues above feelings. If we spend our homeschooling hours simply on academics and activities, we may win the praise of man, but we risk losing the hearts of our children. In our few short years with our children we must focus on the first things first and character is always the first thing! In this conference, Megan, a homeschooling mother of eight, will challenge your homeschoolers to use every opportunity to teach their children to serve God by loving others and to love others by faithfully serving God.

For the last twelve years, you’ve probably felt the tension of “what’s next?” for your children. You hoped the dilemma would solve itself, but it didn’t. In fact, there are all sorts of homeschool graduates who are stuck in the “what now zone” or were discouraged from traveling a particular path. It’s time to put your fears aside, look the cap and gown in the eye, and take an honest look at life after graduation. Don’t be afraid. God has a plan for your child, and part of that plan is that He’s given them YOU to help guide them into their next phase of life.
X-Boxes, Game-Cubes, the INTERNET, Facebook, and iPhones have changed the way we live, have fun, and interact. Children quietly glued to game monitors for hours have replaced laughter and creativity. They beg to play, whine when they can’t, and even lie about the time they’ve spent on “the gadget”. Technology has become a powerful tool and ‘everyone is doing it’…but maybe you feel like you’ve lost control in your own home. Does the chill down your spine tell you that something is terribly wrong? Do you feel like a beast has invaded your home, but you don’t know how to handle it? If so, then join Todd as you talk together about the timely topic of taming the TECHNO-BEAST!

Children like to do what they can do, they want to do what they think they can do, and they hate to do what they think they cannot do. If you want excited and enthusiastic children who learn well, you must understand these key laws of motivation, and focus on the essential requirement of relevancy. If it matters, children will learn it, and if it doesn’t, they won’t. This session will enlighten you with specific ways to find and create relevancy for children, even when they have no apparent interest.

We’ve all suffered it at one time or another: frustration about writing assignments. Either on the receiving end or perhaps now on the giving end, there can be a few distinctly discouraging aspects to teaching and being taught writing. The tough questions include: What to correct and how to give a grade? How much help is too much? Isn’t the assignment clear enough? Why don’t students find their own errors? Learn and avoid four teaching mistakes that contribute to this frustration: Overcorrecting, Holding Back Help, Unclear Assignments, and Over-Expectation.

The Four Language Arts - Show More
When asked, “What are the language arts?” people may respond by listing numerous subjects: spelling, phonics, grammar, penmanship, copying, dictation, narration, and composition. But actually it’s much simpler! For those adhering to the classical model, those ascribing to a Charlotte Mason approach, or those who just want a common sense curriculum, there are really only four core language arts: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and the attending well to the first two makes teaching the latter two so much easier. Come prepared to have your educational paradigm adjusted, your load lightened, and your commitment to excellence renewed as you focus on the most important things in the limited time you have.

Knowing how to teach grammar is especially challenging for the parent who doesn’t feel confident in his or her own grammar proficiency. Grammar programs often consist of piles of workbooks, wasted dollars, and way too much time spent trying to fill that subject. Often what is taught in those workbook pages doesn’t translate into success in writing. The results are poor mechanics and a less than stellar understanding of “What is a verb?” or perhaps more importantly, “How do verb choices enhance writing?” If you are asking, “But what about grammar?” Andrew Pudewa has answers to your dilemma.

This one-hour seminar is for any parent who wishes they could freeze their child in time. Sometimes, we want to savor the preciousness of this particular moment. After all, we are surrounded by a culture with no moral compass and our teens are inundated with technology that overpowers our principled standards. But don’t give up hope! Jean has successfully piloted two teens to adulthood, surviving the rocky shoals and storm-ridden waters. She’ll teach you the three keys to capturing (or recapturing) the heart of any teenager.

Tick Tock. Have you ever experienced a series of days, weeks or even months when you felt like you just could NOT get on top of all that you had to do? Have you just decided that it’s either school or dinner? Or maybe you just gave up school and now everyone has matching socks again! Most moms struggle with finding a balance when it comes to homeschooling and staying on top of the rest of your day. Have you ever read 2 Corinthians 12:9? You probably have… it says, “My strength is made perfect in weakness”. Homeschooling reveals weakness … it’s true! And that’s a good thing, because it means you get to give even more glory to the Lord when you graduate your kids and see that they are walking with the Lord. Homeschool mom, if you’re struggling with trying to do it all, you will enjoy hearing some of Heidi’s favorite tips for managing homeschooling and homemaking…and still finding time to fit in “other things” (like alone time with your husband!) This is an opportunity to GET SET FREE from the expectations of others, laugh out loud learn how two words: BE INTENTIONAL can make a huge difference in your ability to manage your home and your homeschool well. Heidi really loves to use acrostics and this is one of her favorites! Bring a friend and leave your preconceived ideas at the door because real moms sometimes serve Cheerios for dinner!
With a unique and humorous approach, Steve demonstrates how to use hands-on manipulatives to illustrate important math concepts such as algebra, place value, exponents, regrouping (carrying and borrowing), double digit multiplication, fractions, and factoring.

There are so many of us facing this situation. If you find yourself trying to balance these responsibilities, please join us for this discussion group.
One of the most challenging aspects of homeschooling a houseful is figuring out how to teach them all while finding time to manage the rest of your day! Moms are always wondering if they are “doing enough” and finding the time to teach individual subjects, well, individually… can be overwhelming. This highly practical workshop will compare and contrast the many different teaching methods and styles commonly employed by homeschooling parents. Linda seeks to share advantages and disadvantages within each method, without preference. Bring your questions.
Young children are naturally curious about the world. They wonder what things are called, how they work, and why things happen, often taking their daily question count into the hundreds. Take heart, parents, this is a good thing! Inquiry and exploration are the tools of active learning. This workshop is full of simple ways for parents to build on the naturally inquisitive behaviors of three to five-year-olds and promote an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

How does a homeschool education prepare students for college mathematics courses? A homeschool dad and college mathematics professor, Jason draws from 12 years of teaching experience to discuss the unique opportunities afforded by homeschool for developing in children and teens a facility for mathematics. But the homeschool environment is ideally suited for building solid skills in mathematics and logical reasoning, which will serve them well in college.

Presented by: Christian Homeschool Association of PennsylvaniaMay. 13, 2016
Many purity resources these days focus on girls, but purity tends to be a much larger problem for young men, and many parents seem hopelessly naïve about the battles their sons are facing. In a time when over 90% of teens have been exposed to Internet pornography, how can we teach our boys to keep their way pure? What can we do when temptation is lurking on friends’ phones and beckons just a click away? How can we give them a Biblical contact for sexuality–from their toddler years to adulthood? Come hear the parents of six sons give you frank, practical advice on raising your son to be a virtuous knight.

Citizens concerned for the future of their country, under a federal government that’s increasingly bloated, corrupt, reckless and invasive, have a constitutional option. We can return the country to its original vision of a limited federal government that is of, by, and for the people. Come hear how you can make a difference.

Marilyn Boyer has taught all fourteen of her children at home, so she has plenty of experience with any age group you can name. But her very favorite age to teach is those eager, curious, exciting, challenging munchkins we call preschoolers. This, Marilyn says is the time when we lay the foundation for greatness by pouring love and acceptance all over them—instead of treating them like a nuisance. Preschoolers aren’t just little interruptions to be kept “occupied” while older siblings study. This season in a child’s life is the time to tap into his huge potential by maximizing his natural love for learning and helping him to see that God is preparing him for a lifetime of important service. Come and learn from Marilyn how to make your little ones a valuable part of the team!

Then you’re probably raising boys! If the world seems intent on gender-bending and forcing our sons into a feminized mold, Hal and Melanie, parents of six boys, explain the Biblical way out – and a better way to turn wild little dirt-lovers into strong Christian men!
