MP3# 23-412 Willamette 1 Homeschooling is a beautiful way to educate all minds, and it is particularly excellent for those with unique brain wiring. However, the problems associated with ADHD can be hard to recognize in a homeschooling environment since they don't manifest in the same manner as in institutional schooling. This workshop will shine a light on how ADHD shows up in the homeschool and how families can study it and support it so that these amazing minds can prosper even in the non-ADHD world. Attendees will receive a discount for "ADHD: See it, Study it, Support it!" Group Coaching with Rhea Finch, a Certified Professional ADHD Family Coach.

Do you have a child who is smart but does not feel like they are? Does your child speak poorly about themself or tell you they can't do something even before they try? Are they reluctant to try to learn something new for fear that they will not do it perfectly? Often, this is because they are afraid of forgetting, not being able to get it done fast or good enough or are afraid of disappointing their parents. This workshop will help you to better understand your child and help them see how truly smart and capable they are.

Twenty-two years ago, Marcia began using the Structure of Intellect (SOI) assessment to help each student and adult discover how they can do their best. She helps with visual, auditory, and sensory-balance enrichment; dyslexia intervention; screening for Irlen light sensitivity overload that may be causing problems with focusing, visual fatigue, headaches, reading delays; or a number of other possible challenges that can interfere with learning and behavior.
It can be intimidating to think about educating a kid who’s blowing the curve, racing ahead, and seems to want more. Can you really meet his needs, or would he be better off with professionals? How can you help him fit in socially? Should he graduate early or on time? Hal and Melanie were involved in gifted programs in school, and had several precocious children themselves. You can meet the needs of your bright child and enjoy doing it!

The fix is accommodations that use specific colors of plastic overlays, colored paper, adjusting screens, and precision-tinted lenses if there are extra environmental issues that trigger headaches or other health concerns. If you or your child lose your place reading, need to re-read, get visual fatigue, or possibly become anxious, concentrate poorly, or get headaches/migraines in bright light (or other symptoms), you will want to attend this workshop presented by Robin Firth, RN and fully certified Irlen Diagnostician. Bill has been HELP’s Director for 34 years. HELP is a not for profit organization located on the campus of Marylhurst University between West Linn and Lake Oswego and provides testing and drug-free treatment for children and adults with learning and processing problems. The good news is that processing ability can be developed to greater levels. In this session you will learn how to test and enhance your child’s processing ability. The HEART of Home Education
Presented by: Oregon Christian Home Education Association NetworkAug. 22, 2003
Chris speaks to the hearts of home school fathers and mothers urging them to teach their children what really matters. Chris Klicka calls all homeschoolers to draw closer to the Lord and seek him with their whole heart. As an attorney, Chris Klicka has been battling for the right of parents to homeschool since 1985, and has been battling multiple sclerosis since 1994. He walks the talk as he shows how we must live in light of eternity and make every single day count. As a homeschool father of seven, Chris speaks from both his heart and many years of practical experience. He describes how we must understand suffering and how we are commanded to share the gospel as a family and as individuals virtually everyone we meet. He helps us all to return to our "first love" and establish a close relationship with our Lord and Savior. Chris explains that you're not homeschooling for homeschooling sake, but for the glory and honor of God. We can delegate authority to teach our children to someone else, but we can never delegate the responsibility.
Many people succeed in school but fail in the real world outside. Real education prepares the student for every aspect of life - practical, professional, spiritual, economic, civic. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve. Those things that make us most useful for service add up to a real education.
Aug. 23, 2003
Chris Klicka, home school attorney and father of seven, will present scores of biblical references which demonstrate how God requires our children to be nurtured and educated. The main purpose of this talk is to help homeschoolers develop a lasting commitment to homeschooling as the means to best train our children in God's ways. He will explain how the agenda and philosophy of the "movers and shakers," past and present, in public education are diametrically opposed to this. Chris will encourage us to keep up the fight and train our children to be leaders of tomorrow who have been taught not only to believe like Christians, but also to think like Christians. Chris will also urge the audience to sound the warning to other Christians to remove their children from the public schools. Chris proves his case very convincingly and this has become one of his most popular talks.
Aug. 22, 2003
Parents of children with disabilities experience many challenges associated with having and teaching a child with learning problems. Negative emotions, lack of support and distorted perspectives can keep us from being effective teachers of our children. In this workshop, Mrs. Hensley will discuss the importance of facing challenges honestly as well as look at how these challenges are actually opportunities placed in our lives by God for our spiritual growth.
