When You Walk By the Way
Presented by: Oregon Christian Home Education Association NetworkJun. 20, 2008
We are losing 75-88% of professing Christian kids by the end of their freshman year in college. In this message, Dr. Baucham explains why, and what the Bible has to say about stemming the tide.
“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” One only has to listen to find the heart of a child. Once found, it is essential that we don't begin to control, pressure, or manipulate in order to change behavior. Changed behavior must be the result of a changed heart. Anything less leads only to hypocrisy, rebellion. Too often parents depend on rules as the primary enforcer of behavior. Rules can change behavior, but they can't change the heart. When parents begin to see the difference between character flaws and disobedience, applying less pressure and more gentle understanding, children will be more willing to admit fault and seek help from those they love. Children need to hear the beating of our hearts rather than the beating of our voices. Parents will want to join Mark as he relates his experience as a shepherd and the important lesson that you don't become a shepherd just because you own sheep.

Josiah became King when he was eight years old. Do we believe God made a mistake, or do we believe God calls and uses even the young for his glory? If we believe the latter, then we must reject the modern concept of adolescence and raise our sons and daughters to live and serve as men and women during their teen years as opposed to sitting on the sidelines and extending their childhood.

Dr. Baucham turns his attention to the Christian home and explains what an "orderly" home should look like. Expounding on the Old Testament text of Deuteronomy 6, Voddie highlights six characteristics of a properly ordered home. Through personal testimony and biblical instruction, Voddie educates and motivates Christian parents to rise to the challenge of changing the world - one household at a time.
A California court with one ruling outlaws homeschooling in California stating that Parental Rights are not found in the U.S. Constitution. The U.N. Treaty on the Rights of the Child threatens the right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children. What can we do as parents to protect our rights to raise our children?

How education effects worldview, and what that means for your child. What is a worldview? How are worldviews developed? Is there a correlation between worldview and education? Does it matter where and how we educate our children? Should Christians send their children to public schools? This message tackles the issue of public education head on. There is a mass exodus of young adults from the church. This message demonstrates the role worldview plays in the contemporary crisis. Whether you are a parent, or plan to be, you need to listen to this message.

Most Christian parents, if they are honest, haven't a clue as to how to disciple the children God has entrusted to them. Thankfully, the Bible gives clear instructions.

When I first began to research the topic of laziness, I found that there was very little work available and less than a handful of books on the subject. It was then that I found a treasury of information recorded over 4000 years ago, along with a fascinating thesis on this subject written in the 1600s. In this seminar, we will explore the four root causes of laziness, and the time-tested remedies that have changed many a lazy child and demanding parent. A slothful person, according to Solomon, “will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing." But “show me a man diligent in his work and he shall stand before kings!” (Proverbs 22)
Most boys love reading books filled with adventure, discovery, unusual facts, and heroic, courageous behavior, but their moms, the primary book finders, may be at a loss in determining books that fulfill these ideals. Jan Bloom, vintage book dealer and mother of a male reader, searched for great books that appealed to boys but were also well-written and had positive role models and a healthy worldview. Jan will give suggestions of authors for all ages of boys, from those early "reading is too hard" days to "I hardly have time to read anymore" years.

One of the major differences between struggling students and super learners is their ability to process information. If your child struggles with attention span, directions, phonics, letter, number, or word recognition, comprehension, composition, social skills, language, visual attending, word problems, or thinking skills, he or she may have a processing challenge. The good news is that processing ability can be developed to greater levels. In this session you will learn how to test and enhance your child’s processing ability. Come to be encouraged by the possibilities to change your child life.

Why do we start for the kitchen to get a drink for a child, get sidetracked by a paperclip on the floor and end up weeding in the garden with no idea why our child is still thirsty? Why do library books constantly disappear into black holes in our homes, never to be seen again?...at least not before the fines add up? Why do we have 25 projects started in our day and only 2 or 3 are ever finished? As a self-proclaimed "Gloriously Unregimented Mom", Carol shares stories and strategies from the heart (and from the trenches!) about a home run by a highly distractible mom. She brings to light the many "truths" distractible moms must own if ever they are to develop strategies that work. Best of all, Carol shares her firm conviction that the highly distractible mom has a real and God-given edge over the naturally organized mom. Come and learn and laugh as you find REAL help for the highly distractible mom.

(Parents Only) The technology that is available to children today is astounding; our kids are daily facing pressures and temptation at the push of a button—in a way our generation never had to. The truth is that even though our children spend most of their time with us, these influences are going to bombard them. Information Technology 101 is a crash-course on how to set safeguards on the activities kids are exposed to on the internet. This workshop focuses on many different areas of interest for young people on the internet: surfing the web, MySpace and other social networking sites, web cams, chat rooms and more. Join the Generations of Virtue team as they help you navigate this maze of technology.

Based on the Greek understanding of Ephesians 6:4 and Colossians 3:21, Mark will paint and unforgettable picture for parents who are unknowingly quenching the spirit of their children. Children who are fully loved, fully known, without any fear of rejection, will become children who possess a low level of fear and a high level of risk and reasoning. Children who develop a high level of risk and reasoning, are children who see failure as stepping stones for success. Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Success is failure upon failure, with great enthusiasm!” You will not want to miss this session of great enthusiasm, instruction, and inspiration!

Even if your child has a learning related diagnosis, such as Sensory Integration Disorder, Autism, Developmental Delay, CAPD, PDD, ASD, Asperger Syndrome, Down Syndrome (or another chromosome disorder), MMR, Brain Injured, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Language Delay, or Cerebral Palsy, you can successfully teach him or her at home. You can make excellent progress, if you will address the root causes of his or her learning difficulties. This workshop will teach you how to identify areas for remediation and give you specific activities that you can use to help your child to become a better learner.

In a mission-minded homeschool, there’s a God-infused energy. There’s a focus on God’s worldwide purpose and there’s a passion for the lost. There’s a spiritual depth and hunger that reaches beyond the maintenance mode of cultural Christianity. A mission-minded family emphasizes leadership, calling, and destiny. There’s a prevailing attitude of self-sacrifice and an emphasis on total submission to God’s will. And there’s an unmistakable and contagious joy. This workshop suggests practical ways to incorporate a heart for God’s Great Commission into our everyday homeschooling life.

Psalm 111:2-3a The works of the Lord are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them. His work is honorable and glorious..., Homeschooling parents have the opportunity to teach their children of one of God's wonderful creations - mankind. This workshop aims to encourage families to take to heart the importance of teaching heritage and culture as a means of preparing the next generation to spread the gospel. In acknowledging and studying cultures and heritages we honor God's handiwork. In learning the multiple aspects of a culture we can gain insight into the grace of God in the lives of others. Teaching Heritage and Culture is an important means to equip students with a biblical worldview in our current global culture.

Many evangelical churches today are crying out for more men to take leadership. But at the same time, they often require advanced degrees in seminary or Bible College. Is that biblical? How can a local church raise up men to lead without having to send them off for academic training. The answer is found in the basic principles of the home schooling movement. Those who walk with the wise will become wise. Ordinary (i.e. regular) men can become more than adequate for service as Elders and Deacons in Christ's church by being "home schooled by the church" in preparation for the ministry. Steve Rouse is a Teaching Elder for Household of Faith Community Church, a local church that fills five pulpits every Sunday with a roster of over 20 competent preachers and Bible teachers from its five neighborhood congregations

The home is the easiest and most natural place to disciple our children. But the job is not an easy one and the responsibility falls on fathers. Sometimes it is daunting because we have never done it before. Sometimes it seems impossible because we don’t understand it. Sometimes it isn’t getting done because “I let my wife handle those things.” We’ll talk about the necessity of discipleship and some of the ways dads can tackle this project to the glory of God.

For children to be efficient learners with good long term memory, they need to have well organized brains. Academic or attention challenges, letter or word reversals, difficulty retaining academics, lack of coordination, stuttering or stammering, disorganization or emotionality are often symptoms of brain disorganization. Applicable to “normal”, “gifted” and “struggling” students, the information in this session may help you discover underlying causes of troublesome symptoms and give you some ideas that may help your children.

For many homeschool students, a future college degree may be necessary to fulfill God’s purposes; yet the process of admissions and financial aid can be intimidating. The Dunagan family have coached their first three totally-homeschooled graduates to college admissions and scholarship success. By taking advantage of our unique freedoms in home education, they emphasize leadership, individual strengths, international missions, community service, CLEP exams, scholarship competitions, and dual-enrolment in high school and community college. And through a growing process of faith, and by God's grace, their family has earned (so far) over $200,000 in college scholarships and financial grants. . . for God's glory!

Apologetics is making a defense for the Christian faith. How do you explain the trinity to your children or prepare them to witness with questions they may need to answer such as, "How could a loving God create hell?" Through weekly meetings, for students 12 and older, dads teach, and parents coach as the students verbally present written cards; defining, expounding Biblical proof, and the significance of God's nature, salvation, scripture, the nature of man and Jesus Christ. Students are encouraged with fellowship, working with their dads and possible competition locally with NCFCA. Come hear our students, their dads, and be introduced to the study of apologetics.
