Maybe you struggled with math, so how do you choose a curriculum to avoid the same fate for your child? Maybe you are really good in math but are unsure how to teach it now? Should you include manipulatives or not? What DOES it take to be the best teacher for your child? Find out the science and the art of teaching math. It is a science because much research has been done on how children learn, especially in math. It is an art because each child is different and lessons need to be tweaked. Come learn and be encouraged to become a great math teacher.

Discover practical strategies for teaching your child HOW to learn. This workshop will give you the tools to guide your child as they gradually transition to learning independently. Whether you have preschoolers or high schoolers you can decrease burnout, develop successful students, and bring peace into your home once again. Listen and experience a renewed vision for your homeschool.

Do you have a student who is having reading difficulties? You are a human being, not a human doing. Culture and society will tell you that changing the world and making a difference with your life will require you to become rich, famous, and/or powerful. Unfortunately, it’s extremely difficult to become rich, famous, and powerful. Fortunately, that’s not the way you change the world and make a difference. Christianity has a different plan for world changers, a plan that anyone can follow, that requires community, and that you can start today. This session will teach you how you really change the world and find meaning. Caution: If you attend this session you will have to start today!

What does it mean to be a godly father who leads his family faithfully? Hear these true stories about homeschool dads who have grappled with this question: • An NFL Super Bowl Champion who came to Christ after realizing the world's definition of success was hollow. • An Orthodox Jew who found Christ after reading the Book of Matthew, even at the price of being shunned by everyone he knew. • An Army Lieutenant Colonel who was at the Pentagon on 9/11 when a Boeing 757 crashed yards away from him, engulfing his body in flames, sending him on an unforgettable journey of faith and hope.

Currently 1 in 44 eight-year-olds in the U.S. is diagnosed with autism every year. You are NOT alone! But this journey can be daunting. While every family needs rules, limits, and boundaries to help protect your child and keep order, they cannot come at the expense of your relationship. It's not the rules that cause our children to rebel. Often something is missing. Think you might be an entrepreneur at heart? Come and learn the top five questions you need to ask yourself before taking the plunge. Then learn how to find the right market, avoid the biggest mistakes, and take the practical steps today to set yourself up for future success.

The world is filled with all kinds of sensory input that we use and enjoy. Many children can filter out the distracting or non-applicable input so that they can focus on schoolwork. However, some children are aware of much of the sensory input around them at all times OR they are not aware of any input. This impacts their ability to attend to school work and apply what is learned. This workshop will help you to better understand what it is like to live in a world where you cannot process sensory input effectively and provide practical suggestions to regulate sensory input to help your child to attend and succeed in learning.

Most students today are asked to write essays before they’ve actually read any. Worse, they’re taught writing in highly artificial forms, like the five-paragraph essay — a kind of writing no one in the real world ever has to produce. This homeschooling dad has worked for thirty years as a writing consultant, and here he shares his practical perspective both on our students’ real needs and on the classroom methods traditionally used to teach writing. He also shows parents five writing practices that our students need to master but are seldom taught.

What if homeschooling and the homeschool movement was about more than education, but was the training corps for the special forces whose mission is to take and hold the cultural anchors of our civilization? What if your local church was more than a building to worship in once a week, but was the headquarters for an army whose mission was to rebuild a civilization? What if we understood that this army doesn’t build walls and fortifications to keep the barbarians out, but builds homes and communities that lower the bridge, open the gates, and invites those outside in, to a better world? This session will challenge you to think big, think long, and join the mission.

If you are like most parents, you are concerned about what your kids might post online. Unfortunately, social media is a powerful platform that isn't going away. While more and more kids seek relationships online, you can teach them how to create a positive profile that helps influence the next generation. Connie Albers educates teens and parents on using technology as a tool for the Kingdom by creating a positive social profile that promotes causes they are passionate about. This presentation is for you if you want to learn from a mother who has successfully navigated her five children through the social media maze.

This workshop addresses some of the challenges associated with teaching struggling and atypical learners at home in the high school years. Do you have questions such as “How do I award my child with special needs a diploma?” or “What do I do since my child with dyslexia can’t read typical high school level material?” Faith discusses alternative coursework, specialized curricula and learning materials, assistive technology, transcript options, possible graduation guidelines, high school programs for special learners, and post–high school options. She also offers tips for navigating the process of applying for testing accommodations for College Board tests.

Like you, when we began our homeschooling journey we asked ourselves, “Will we be able to teach them all they need to know for success?” There were so many options and subjects to teach them. They were loaned to us knowing almost NOTHING and we were expected to fill up their noggins and prepare them for adulthood. Little did we know then that homeschooling turned out to be not only what we taught them…but what THEY taught US. Never would we have believed how God would use homeschooling to teach us what He needed us to know as parents, homeschoolers, and as His children. So join me for an intimate time of sharing and laughing at the lessons my children taught me. My hope is that you’ll start to view your homeschool day less as a time to teach and muscle through but as a gift.

The homeschool movement coined and promoted the idea of fostering a LOVE of learning…and yet most homeschooling moms have fostered a “hate” of learning. Instead of inspiring their children to love exploration, discovery, and learning, all of which homeschool SHOULD foster, moms find their children fighting them tooth and nail to “do school.” Let me just say from the start that I BELIEVE homeschooling and learning should be fun for our children and us. Its very design enables learning to be experienced in a way NO public or private school can provide. So why is it not the case in most homeschools? I think the answer is simple: we’ve believed and adopted some ideas that are not true and that kill inspiration and the love of learning. Join me as we talk about helping our children LOVE to learn.

So, I don’t want to offend, but parents, we are seeing entirely too many families where the children seem to be leading the family instead of mom and dad leading the family. Do you have children that tell you, “No?” Do you have children that you spend hours trying to convince them to do something you’ve asked? Do you find yourself giving in to your child’s request even though deep down, you don’t really want to? Don’t beat yourself up. We’ve all been guilty of this at one time or another, however it’s time to stop. We’re not helping our children when this behavior is common in our home, instead we’re actually hurting them. Come and listen to motivational speaker, Monica Irvine, as she helps unravel this tendency and give great insight on how we can regain our parental authority. It truly can change the direction of your child’s life. Don’t miss this!

What is the true definition of socialization? Who should be socializing our children? Will your children be looked at as “different” or criticized for being unsocialized? Deborah Wuehler, Senior Editor of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine will answer these questions and reveal the negative socialization in the present education culture, as well as the points of positive socialization that homeschooling affords when you keep your children Home Where They Belong.

Homeschool graduates still encounter discrimination when applying for employment, admission to colleges and trade schools, social security, disability, and veteran’s benefits, and participation in extracurricular competitions and programs. While homeschooling is now widely recognized as a legal form of education, there is still much work to be done to ensure that students and graduates are not discriminated against because their parents choose to exercise their right to homeschool. HSLDA continues to advocate for students and graduates who face this kind of discrimination. Come hear the stories, legal battles, and solutions for how to end homeschool discrimination.

Do you have a child who doesn’t want to be homeschooled, in-laws who don’t understand your reasons for homeschooling, a spouse who isn’t sold on the idea, or a guilt complex reminding you that you have no business homeschooling your children? Those nagging, sometimes-silent disapprovals can crush a person under the weight of guilt and despair. You sometimes feel like a wave tossed to and fro because in your heart of hearts you feel God would have you homeschool…but then again, the arguments against it are almost drowning you. Join Todd, as he goes face to face with the naysayers and shows you how to address their concerns, questions, and logic of why you shouldn’t homeschool your children.

20/20 vision means you can see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance. However, it does not mean that you have perfect vision. Visual acuity gives no meaning about what a person sees. If your child is not achieving their full potential academically, struggling with written reading comprehension, skips lines or words when reading, reverses words or letters, or avoids reading or near work, this presentation is for you. There are more than 17 visual skills that are needed for efficient vision and learning. Children struggling with binocular vision or visual processing disorders often will not complain about symptoms because they are unaware that they visually experience things any differently than their peers. In this course, we will learn about these skills, the signs and symptoms of a visual processing disorder, and what can be done to help them be successful.

Dinosaurs have been taken as the icon of evolution and most people have been taught that the fossil evidence supports. But does it really? The answer is no! New discovery in modern science is proving the Bible to be accurate and in the workshop we will be looking at some of those discoveries including dinosaur soft tissue, red blood cells and DNA.

I know you have felt the pain of regret when you have had a moment of failure when discipling your children. I know many of you are fighting against habits you learned from your parents that you swore you would never do. I know you want to parent with love, honor and respect, but sometimes you don’t. Parents, did you know that it is God’s perfect plan that his imperfect children raise his imperfect children? He knew you and I would not be perfect parents. He knew we would get it wrong on some days. However, still, he knew that the best people to raise your children was YOU! It is! It’s you. Listen to Master Motivator, Monica Irvine, share some invaluable insights in parenting with greater understanding and greater self control. Mrs. Irvine will help you to understand the difference in discipling to stop or start behavior and disciplining to change our children’s hearts. It makes all the difference. If you want a loving happy health relationship with your adult children, you must start today creating that relationship. Don’t miss this!

During this fast-paced and high energy presentation specifically designed for homeschool families with children in grades 7-12, Merritt and Dannika Nelson, college admissions and financial aid experts, will take a complex issue, what to do after high school and where to do it, and share how to remove the complexity and stress and turn it into an enjoyable and simple to understand process. Their model has proven to deliver four key elements: 1) how to find the right college fit; 2) how to stand out during the admission process; 3) how to secure as much financial aid as possible; 4) how to remove the pressure, stress, and tension that comes with the college search process.

This Parenting Master Class by Master Motivator, Monica Irvine, will teach you the pattern of teaching your family how to have impeccable table manners and how to make it fun and doable. Worldview defined is any ideology, philosophy, theology, movement or religion that provides an overarching approach to understanding God, the world, and mankind’s relation to God and the world. A worldview should contain a particular perspective on theology, philosophy, ethics, science, psychology, sociology, law, politics, economics and history. Learn how the Christian Worldview is superior. Our country began with a Christian worldview. To promote human rights and liberty requires a Christian worldview.

Everyone argues. That’s the truth. I’m not talking about the righteous anger…I’m talking about the good ol’ sinful kind. Some yell, some become silent, and all of us teach our children by our example. But here’s the deal: there are some principles that can make those sinful arguments less damaging and more “productive”. So…since you’re going to argue, we might as well do it right. Join, me for a fun filled, honest look at the ugly things we do and say and for some practical rules for arguing “better.”

Self-esteem can have a negative connotation among God’s people, but it is really about a right relationship with God and a true perspective of Who God is and who we are. As parents we have the responsibility to raise kids with a positive understanding of who God says they are. Claiming these truths can change attitudes and actions. Are you aware of how your words and actions can help or hurt your child as they find out who they are? Is communication in your home healthy and honoring to God? Dara will speak about the importance of words that build up and emotions that are handled carefully. Learning and teaching how to take every thought captive, how to replace Satan’s lies with God’s truths, and how to give praise to our Amazing God will give you tools towards building a healthy and Biblical self-esteem within your child’s heart.

Privacy is power. The right to privacy, however, is slowly being eroded from the foundations of our society today. In this talk, we will discuss the philosophy of the Internet, what that means for our privacy and how we can protect our families and our digital information.

Mothers have every good intention of discipling their children in the ways of the Lord, but a lack of knowledge of how to go about it and the day-to-day necessities of keeping a home and getting lessons done often get in the way of following through on those good intentions. Using the analogy of a home from Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house…,” Amy will walk you room by room through the home looking at scriptural examples to empower mothers to build a spiritual home of discipleship for their children while gaining practical tips for managing each room in their physical homes—all without losing their minds. Come away from this workshop with a plan to implement both in the discipleship of your children and keeping of your home.

So many curricula claim Christian foundations, but very few remain firm on Creation. Find out what a difference this can make and see how it not only excites your children for learning but will build a solid foundation for them to resist the constant immorality faced at every turn.

Years ago, a homeschool mom came up to me with a pen in hand and a notebook in the other and said, “I believe that the relationship with my children matters more than anything else…so can you tell me what “relationship” is? I didn’t have a great answer at the time…but I do now. Join me as we look at TWO homeschooling moms. One spends her days doing what matters and one spends her days on what does not last. My desire is to help you and me do what matters.

It's about getting our eyes off of our own circumstances and seeing the bigger matters of a lost and dying world. This particular message addresses the Christian homeschool family. How can a homeschooled family live boldly for Christ? How can they change the world in which they live? How can they say “no” to the bait of self-focus and snatch up the call of God to audaciously serve in the Name of Jesus Christ? How can they dare to do as Stanley Dale?

Parenting is difficult. The difficulty increases when we go after more than just “good enough” for our children. The flack that comes from aiming our children for “great and godly” is almost too much for most parents, so, “good enough” often seems like a reasonable place to settle. This message is about aiming our children toward “ready and raring to change the world”! It’s difficult, but it comes with power, because it’s parenting in agreement with the Holy Spirit. “Changing the world for Jesus Christ” is precisely what God is desiring to do in and through our children.
